Arbutus Club

Went by the invitation of a member to watch the game.

Apparently they have free popcorn, and it's delicious. Salty and buttery. We had about 4-5 bowls.

We had the wings to start. I liked the honey garlic more than the barbecue, as usual, since I don't like sour stuff.

B had the regular burger, which was really good considering it was not REAL Kobe, but just kobe style. It was flavourful and had crispy bacon to go with it.

He finished it, so it must've been really good.

I had the low carb burger, because I have been counting calories. It was also really good, but I really missed the carbs. Luckily it came with some really good fries. It was good enough that B ate some despite being really full from his burger.

Great experience. Good food. Good service. No tip necessary. Awesome deal.

Toshi Sushi

B had never tried Toshi, so we decided to stop by on our way home. They have lots of 2 person seating, so we didn't have to wait at all.

We had the 8 piece salmon sashimi, Tako sashimi, 2 ikura nigiri, 2 unagi nigiri, and a Philadelphia roll. We also had a hot sake.

The salmon was good. Although we actually like the fatter farm raised salmon, the Atlantic wild salmon still melted in your mouth. Although I personally found the Tako too chewy, B thought it was fine and really liked the taste. He thought it was equal to the Tako sashimi at Kimura.

The Philadelphia roll was good. They mixed the cream cheese with green onions, which made the flavour more complex. The unagi and the ikura were a little disappointing, compared to Kimura. The ikura did not "pop" in your mouth like you would expect (like when I tasted it in Sapporo and discovered my love for it). The unagi also did not melt in your mouth and tastes a little fishy.

Overall, solid sushi, but we'd still prefer Kimura over Toshi - partially for price but mostly because of taste.

Worth visiting if you're in the hood.

Waterfront Wines

Waterfront Wines was one of the highest rated places in Kelowna that was available for labour day weekend, so we decided to give it a try.

The decor is pretty neat, we especially liked this tree branch light fixture in the dining room to the right.

We decided to all go for some tapas style appetizers first. B and I had the cheese platter and the potted foie gras. For the three types of cheese, we had the St. Geric Blue Cheese, the Alpine Gold semi soft cheese, and the Louis d'Or firm cheese.

The blue was of course the strongest, and the other two were good on their own, but would be drowned out by the apricot if added. We really loved the walnuts that were dusted with cinnamon sugar.

The potted foie gras was REALLY good. It was creamy and the wine jelly was a good balance of tart but sweet to go with the creaminess of the liver.

We didn't stay for main courses because we were pretty stuffed from the appetizers and none of the main dishes stood out for us.

Great for a night out while lake cabin-ing in Kelowna. Give it a try if you're in town.
