Music and Yew

Friday nights usually mean a night out in town. We went to the QE to watch Tosca tonight. Aside from the chatterboxes in front of us, it was a good show. Tamara Mancini's voice was so strong and so warm, even though I prefer male singers more, I appreciated her performance. Adam Diegel was amazing. I prefer Baritones and Bass singers, but his tenor voice really took my breath away. Next up, Albert Herring.

As usual, we ended up at Yew for some drinks and a bite to eat.

Here are two singles of the Balvenie and the Dalwhinie. The Balvenie had a strong oaky taste whereas the Dalwhinie was light and fresh. Both went down smooth.

We also tried the Indian Wings and the Kennebec fries. Truffle oil really makes a difference. The truffle aioli had a very distinct flavor. We may invest in truffle oil and use it in some of our future recipes.

The wings were quite different. First of all, it smelled like an Indian restaurant when it arrived. Topped with probably honey, garlic, and nuts, it was a little on the sweet side for me. It could do with a bit of heat - that was the only thing that wasn't "Indian" about it.

What I like about Yew's service is their professionalism. The food was taking a while to get to us, so the server went to check on our order and watched the chef cook it up. We didn't have to ask or complain. When he brought the food over, he apologized for the delay - it was hard to be upset.
